Honey Collection

My husband recently went on a business trip attended by people from four states: Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.  He was given a gift that included a bottle of honey from each state.  I thought this was such a cool idea.  I already collect spoons from every state/country that we visit and I have purchased many souvenirs on my trips, including olive oil in Italy.  But it never occurred to me to buy the same type of food (produced locally) as I travel from state to state.

Honey from 4 states

It would have been fun on our Wild West Road Trip to search for locally made food items in each state and then try them when we got home.  We could reminisce about each place as we enjoy whatever we got.  Wine comes to mind as a great thing to look for.  This would also be a great gift idea for your house sitter, baby sitter or dog walker when you are coming back from a trip.

Have you ever collected a food item from each state you visited?  What would be a good thing to collect?

  1. I love this! We always try to pick up a picture/nice postacard from the different places we visit. The idea is to frame and have a gallery wall of all our travels in the family room:)
We actually just decided to pick up a beer growler from different brewing companies we visit.
That was a nice gift from your hubby's boss! Very thoughtful! I always try to introduce my accounts that live out of state with something unique thoughtful and unique to FL...last trip I took up chocolate shaped seashells. I am actually planning to bring Garrett's popcorn home with me on my next visit to the Windy city for my FL accounts...they will love it!
Back to honey...Have you been to or heard of Savannah Bee Company? It's really neat to visit and do honey tastings;)

    1. I've never heard of SBC. Where is it? By the way, I love Garrett's popcorn!

They are located in Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC....but also have an online shop. They sell lots of honey varieties and body care/gift items:) If you are ever in the Lowcountry, def stop in there store for a tasting. It's a fun and different concept...

  2. It's never occurred to me to collect food items, but I love the idea! What a tasty way to savor your trip. Now, what will you do with all that honey?

    1. Tonya, I have been using it in tea and also mixing it with butter or peanut butter and spreading it on toast. YUM! I also use honey in smoothies, so I have been putting it to good use. :)

  3. I make all of our salad dressings myself (SO easy and so much yummier!). I use honey for a lot of those.

I'm a bit of a "foodie" and haven't ever thought of collecting something from places we visit, but I love the idea! I just might have to find something I love and start doing that!

    Happy Wednesday!

    1. The salad dressing is a great idea...don't know why I haven't tried that yet.

  4. What a neat idea to collect the same food from each state or place. I'm always on the lookout for neat things for a table, but honey would work!

  5. Yum that food you ate looked amazing! Loving what they put with the bread :)

I'd collect different kinds of red wine, hehe ;)
